Dental hygiene treatment includes professionally cleaning the teeth for the patient. This is usually called scaling and polishing. However, perhaps our most important role is showing the patient the best way to keep the teeth free of plaque.
Our Hygienists and Dentists can help if you:
- have stained or discoloured teeth
- are developing gum disease
- need advice for good oral maintenance to help keep your teeth and gums healthy
Process
The Hygienist or Dentist will play an important role in treating gum disease during a routine hygiene appointment.
They will look for early signs of gum disease and tooth decay as well as enable us to remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth, whilst providing advice on brushing and flossing.
During your appointment we will:
- Do a full check and inspection of your mouth and gums, using a mirror and other tools to be able to see around all the surfaces of the teeth and gums.
- Our dentist or hygienist will use their hands to look around your mouth and soft tissue and look for signs of oral cancer such as lumps, lesions or any other irregularities.
- Once this initial process is complete, we will remove hardened plaque and tartar from the teeth and gums using special tools.
- We then will polish the teeth using a special paste to ensure that plaque does not stick the surface of your teeth to prevent your teeth being vulnerable to bacteria.
- Once this process is over we will conduct one final inspection and check of the mouth.
During this appointment it is encouraged that you discuss any oral health concerns you have and we discover anything of concern we will discuss with you a customised treatment plan.

Recently my 62 year old ‘milk tooth’ broke off leaving me with the dread of having the root taken out. Manish was amazing, knowing me from previous treatments, he explained that he would build a new tooth on the remains of my old one. The work was done in an hour, the result was amazing, I couldn’t tell the difference from the one next to it. No pain, no stress and truly wonderful just before Christmas to have my smile back. Phoned in an emergency after extreme pain and my regular dentist not caring that 4 more days was unmanageable, having rang several others that only seemed concerned about booking me in for a check. To my delight and suprise this was no problem for them. Their only concern was that I was in extreme pain and despite anti biotics and pain killers this had not subsided for 72 hours, I was asked to come in immediately for an x ray and immediate extraction. No one like the dentist but I officially love this team now, I will be recommending it to family, friends and all those who read this review.
