Gum Contouring

Gum contouring alone is considered a cosmetic procedure. Most of the time it is not medically necessary. Most people have their gums reshaped to improve the appearance of their smile. However, some people undergo this surgery as part of other necessary periodontal procedures, such as crown lengthening, pocket reduction, and regenerative procedures. Receding gums leave the teeth exposed and vulnerable, while the occurrence of pockets between the teeth provide an ideal location for bacteria to accumulate. Periodontal gum reshaping removes these and seals the tissue to prevent future problems. Gum reshaping procedures not considered cosmetic also include adding gum tissue when recession has occurred and trimming overgrown tissue that has covered part of the tooth crown.

Process

Gum contouring is done at the Dental Concepts clinic by expert Dentists. Completed in one visit in most cases, patient’s remain awake during the procedure. Only the treatment area is given local anaesthesia. A soft tissue laser/scalpel is used to remove excess gum tissue and resculpt the gum line to expose more of the tooth. Sutures may be used to hold the gum tissue in place.

The length of the procedure will vary depending on the extent of the contouring and the amount of resculpting that’s required on a case to case basis. Generally, gum contouring takes about 1 to 2 hours maximum.

After having your gums reshaped, it’s important to practice good dental hygiene for several weeks after the procedure and as a habit for life. This could cause bleeding and the development of infection. Use a gentle cleansing mouth rinse and follow the advice of the Smile Circle Dentist.

Recently my 62 year old ‘milk tooth’ broke off leaving me with the dread of having the root taken out. Manish was amazing, knowing me from previous treatments, he explained that he would build a new tooth on the remains of my old one. The work was done in an hour, the result was amazing, I couldn’t tell the difference from the one next to it. No pain, no stress and truly wonderful just before Christmas to have my smile back. Manish is an amazing person and outstanding dentist. I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Dental Concepts to anyone, especially nervous patients or anxious patients.

Phoned in an emergency after extreme pain and my regular dentist not caring that 4 more days was unmanageable, having rang several others that only seemed concerned about booking me in for a check. To my delight and suprise this was no problem for them. Their only concern was that I was in extreme pain and despite anti biotics and pain killers this had not subsided for 72 hours, I was asked to come in immediately for an x ray and immediate extraction. No one like the dentist but I officially love this team now, I will be recommending it to family, friends and all those who read this review.
